Both the Android and iOS operating systems require apps to request permission to communicate with a Bluetooth device, such as your Smart Box.
The HomeValet app will prompt you to give the required permissions during the Smart Box setup process.
For Android, you will need Bluetooth enabled, and you will have to grant location permissions.
The HomeValet app uses Bluetooth to scan for Smart Boxes and pair them with your phone. However, as it is technically possible to use Bluetooth to track location, Google requires Android users to grant location permissions when giving an app Bluetooth access.
In short, if you do not give the HomeValet app location permissions, you will not be able to set up your Smart Box.
If you previously denied location permissions for the HomeValet app, you can go back and grant those permissions using the following steps:
- Open your phone's Settings app (

- Select 'Apps,' 'Applications,' or the menu option that is the closest
- Scroll through the app list and locate 'HomeValet'
- Tap 'HomeValet'
- Tap 'Permissions'
- Make sure that the toggle for 'Location' is in the on position (green)
